How long does it take a man to get over a "midlife crisis"?

A few years ago my dad filed bankruptcy and he was doing better for a couple of years until we got evicted. I moved out when I was 18 and my parents moved to Arizona. So its been about 3 years and my dad is now unemployed and calls me all the time asking to borrow money. He also calls my sister for money and the church pays their rent and gives them food. It's not like my dad is incapable of working..hes 53 and is a pipefitter and he seems to get laid off a lot. I am just guessing that he is going through some kind of mid life crisis but how long will it last? My family is really suffering because of it. My mom has epilepsy and is constantly falling and hurting herself and has even broke her nose but my dad didn't want to take her to the hospital because of the money. She has also sprained her ankle, my dad also didnt want to take her to the hospital because he thinks he is some kind of doctor or something...anyway how long does a midlife crisis last?
Answers:    Doesn't sound at all like a midlife crisis, but more like a personality disorder. Don't give him money as this only enables him to continue to shift responsibility onto others and avoid facing the consequences of his actions. Was his behavior so different when you were growing up?
sounds liek he is lazy, and possibly depressed, but doesnt sound anything like a mid life crisis.

sounds like he needs some help from his family - approach him, tell him how his actions are affecting the people he loves and try to get him some help - counselling or your local doctor might be a start.
